Brief History
The first recorded meeting of Staunton Parish Council was 4th December 1894. In that meeting it took 10 minutes to unanimously elect Mr J G Hawkins as the first Chairman of the Parish Council. 10 candidates were nominated for the remaining 7 places on the council. Messrs Powell, Fisher, Boucher, Barnett, Barnes, Clutterbuck and Fowler were duly elected. From 1894 to 1950 annual meetings of the council took place which recorded the names of Councillor’s duly elected.
However from November 1950 minutes were taken recording the discussion that took place. The council at that time consisted of Mrs Hawkins and Messrs Brooks, Lane, Hawkins, Halford, Fowler, Pulham & Lusty (Chairman). The subjects discussed ranged from the proposed war memorial, footpath issues and highway issues – not really very different to the current day.Staunton Parish Council holds a full record of all minutes of the Parish Council enclosed within a number of bound minute books.
Current Council
The present council consists of 7 councillors who meet 7 times a year in the Village Hall and represent on average 550 electors. A Clerk is employed on a part time basis to cover the administration work required and act as Responsible Financial Officer. Staunton (North) is part of the Forest of Dean District Council and is in the Redmarley ward. The council works very closely with Corse Parish Council on a number of important issues.

The Parish Council meets bi monthly on the second Thursday of the month in the Annexe at Corse & Staunton Village Hall. Meetings normally commence at 7.30pm.
