Corse & Staunton Parish Plan
Following a public meeting held at the school in 2004 it was decided that Corse & Staunton villages should produce a joint Parish Plan which would discover and take account of the aspirations of all members of the community. A steering group was formed ably chaired by Mrs Carole Magloyden along with a number of volunteers from the two parishes and representatives from both Parish Councils. Grants were obtained from the Forest of Dean District Council and DEFRA and a Questionnaire was circulated to every household in the village.
The Parish Council’s are very grateful to everyone who had given up their time to make this Parish Plan not only possible but a great success. An Action Plan has now been formulated from the community’s response and a Joint Parish Council Working Party formed with two representatives from each of the Parish Councils. Currently Mr Mike Bradbury, Chairman of Staunton Parish Council is chairing this working party. The Working Party has already contacted the Village Hall and Playing Fields committees, the Mobile Library service and both the Fire & Ambulance services. Road safety training provision for children is being discussed with the School, Playgroup and Scout Group. Currently investigations are ongoing into local transport information and neighbourhood watch.
Effective communication with the community is a major concern and the provision of the joint Parish Council notice board; situated by the Prince of Wales, funded by a further grant from the Forest of Dean District Council was the first priority. This will be followed by a joint parish council newsletter, the first edition of which is scheduled for November 2008. This joint parish website is currently being formed to provide a forum for all community groups along with the two parish councils. The Parish Plan is a long term project which could take 5 years or longer to conclude. Both Parish Councils are looking forward to the challenge of responding to the Action Plan and taking the points raised by the villagers forward to improve our already thriving community and have adopted the following phrase:
‘Two parishes-One community’
